Broadcast TV and Film Music     Scores and Sheet Music for Orchestra  25-years behind the camera

bio and credits:

Joe Wiedemann has scored music for broadcast television, news specials, documentaries, film, and commercial videos, since 1981. Also a broadcast videographer, his experience behind the camera has influenced his works. "Music can be a visual medium, simply by conjuring up images with different moods." He calls his unique style of blending electronic and orchestral instruments Orchestronics(R)"Breathing emotion into electronic instruments, like an oboist finesses his tone, opens an almost limitless array of new sounds and possibilities."

Electronic Orchestra (Orchestronics 101)

A cd collection of original music under the name Orchestronics., shown below, explores countless varieties of orchestration using classic orchestral and electronic instruments. Wiedemann also publishes sheet music for his original works, geared mainly toward community and educational ensembles.

Using electronic and acoustic instruments, Wiedemann integrates new players into classical ensembles. Whether it’s just one synth part added to an orchestra, a full concerto, symphony, quartet or duet, there will always be room for sounds the audience has never heard before. All-Acoustic compositions take the orchestra and other ensembles into new territory as well.

With a degree in broadcasting from the University of Evansville, Indiana, and a double major in music, Wiedemann has been active in creating works for documentaries and news programs. His music has aired in national syndication, and on CBS and PBS affiliates. Commercial videos for the San Diego District Atty., Thomas Jefferson School of Law, City of Chula Vista, Regional Transportation Council and others are in circulation on the internet.

A lifelong musical background merged with a broadcast television career in 1978 for Wiedemann.  While studying music at the University of Evansville, he spent nearly all of his savings on a rare and expensive PolyMoog synthesizer.  He began experimenting with electronic music, and tape-to-tape overdubbing. That same year he began his video production and storytelling career as a news videographer with an ABC affiliate.  Music and video technology have come a long way since then.

Since 1981, Joe has been a videographer and editor with KFMB-TV (CBS) in San Diego, crafting stories daily with video. On many occasions, these stories and documentaries called for custom music.  Just like getting a news story on the air quickly, budgeting music production time, and focusing one's energy on a tight deadline, can be a necessity.

This newly released cd: Agitate shakes up the orchestra with lively music and challenging orchestrations.  Synth Concerto #2 brings an uncommon soloist to the stage, while all-acoustic pieces Agitate, Incompatibility Issues, and It's Just a Phase shake things up in a contemporary, yet classical style.
Orchestronics: Agitate

This CD: Electronic Orchestra features Symphony #1 in D-minor for an all-electronic orchestra. Other works include: Duet for Any Two Keyboards, Four at a Time, Please! (a quartet for any four instruments within range), and two pieces for full acoustic orchestra, plus one electronic instrument/synthesizer: Dreamcycles, and Watching the Clock.

Orchestronics: Electronic Orchestra

The CD: Bulls & Bears explored the many different styles, or genres, that electronic instruments have become a part of: jazz, classical, dance, new age... The Concerto No.1 for Piano and Electronic Orchestra uses a very classical form to show that electronic instruments are capable of forming their own ensemble.

The CD: Electro-Acoustic Orchestra shows that the symphony orchestra CAN take on new members. Concerto No.1 for Synthesizer and Orchestra, is just the opposite in orchestration from the previous concerto. This time the orchestra is acoustic, and the soloist is electronic. The style is contemporary classical.
